Joshua Trimmer (1795-1857) was an English geologist. He was self educated in the field of geology having started working in his Father’s mining operations in Wales. While working in the slate quarries near Bangor and Carnorvan he became interested in the marine shells and studied these over several years. Late in life he was to join the Geological Survey, mapping in Hampshire.
He first published his text work Practical Geology and Mineralogy in 1841. It was a very popular work and in 1842 an American edition was published. The only difference in the two printings is the addition of a glossary of terms to the American printing.
