The work is complete and n the original purple cloth, gilt lettering to spine. Binding is tight, inner hinges nicely re-enforced, rubbing and light soiling to binding, old diamond shaped AIME book plate to pastedown, text lightly toned. In good condition.
Ruxton (1821-1848) was s British soldier, explorer, travel writer and Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society. In 1846, he went to Mexico to observe the Mexican War, then he traveled north through Texas to Santa Fe, then through Colorado. He wrote of his experiences and published the above work. Ruxton provides a wealth of information about the geography of the region, the manners and customs of the people, and the current attitudes of Mexicans for Americans.
