The volume is complete with all text and plates present. In original title wraps with spine re-enforced. Covers re-backed, text untrimmed, light to moderate foxing to some text pages, light spotty foxing to some plates. In very good condition.


Abhandlungen der K. K: Geologischen Reichsanstalt. began publication in Vienna in 1852. The early volumes of the treatise are now rare. Publication began under Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) with the editor being the noted Austrian geologist and mineralogist Wilhelm Karl Ritter von Haidinger (1795-1871) who provides the vorwort to the volume. The purpose of each volume was to distribute the results of the most recent geological research in the Austrian empire. Much of the focus is in the Alpine region. The nine memoirs in this volume are:

Noted studies in this volume include five of Ettinghausen's earlier works published as part of his monumental work on the Tertiary flora of the Austrian Monarchy. The works show his great powers of accurate observation and detail to plates which made him one of the great paleo-botanists of the period.?Zekeli’s work on the gastropods of the Gosau formation in the northeastern Alps was his most important work which won broad recognition.
