The work is complete with the colored geological map (issued separately) present. The binding is tight with cloth spine and gilt titles, recent marbled boards, x-lib, with call-number on spine, perforated stamp (John Crear Library) on title page. The text is toned, folded map is exceptionally clean and in slip pocket at rear. In good condition.


An Austro-Hungarian geologist, stratigrapher and paleontologist; Mojsisovics (1839-1907) is noted for his studies of the Austrian Triassic and work with the Austrian Geological Survey. He made many pioneering studies on the cephalopoda in the Tyrol, Vorarlberg the Salzburg district, Yugoslavia, and parts of Italy and is responsible for naming of the Carnian stage after the Carnian Alps in 1869. He is noted for his pioneering research on reefs and especially the Dolomite reefs of the South Tyrols. ?Throughout his studies Mojsisovics paid special attention to the Cephalopoda of the Triassic. This is reflected in his works: Das Gebirge urn Hallstatt (1873 1876); Die Dolomitrisse von Südtirol und Venetien (1878–1880); Grundlinien der Geologie von Bosnien-Herzegowina (1880) with E. Tietze and A. Bittner; Die Cephalopoden der Mediterranen Triasprovinz (1882); Die cephalopoden der Hallsttter Kalke (187 31903) and Beiträge zur Kenntniss der obertriadischen Cephalopodenfaunen des Himalaya (1896). With Melchior Neumayr (1845–1890) he conducted the Beiträge zur Paläontologie und Geologie Österreich-Ungarns (Contributions to the Palaeontologie and Geology of Austria-Hungary).
