A Swiss professor of mathematics and natural sciences at Porrentury in Switzerland; Thurman (1804-1857) made major contributions to our understanding of the geology and stratigraphy of the Jura Mountains including the above classic on the geology and paleontology of the Juras in the region of Porrentury.
