First edition, Quarto, pp. 420 with 38 page appendix, including 49 text figures, 4 lithographic plates (2 tinted), and 3 large folding chromolithographic geologic maps (in rear pocket).
 
The volume is complete with all maps present and in the original cloth with gilt spine titles. The spine is lightly sun faded. Book plate of George S. Morrison on front pastedown, light stain on outer text block edge, text and plate free of staining or marks, the maps are bright and clean. In very good condition.
 
 This volume of the Wheeler survey contains the first detailed mapping of the Trinidad, Colorado, to Los Alamos, New Mexico, region. It is rarely seen with all pocket maps present. This volume covers the geology of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico examined in the field by John J. Stevenson of the Wheeler Survey during the years 1878 through 1879.   The lithography is by Julius Bien and Thomas Sinclair & Co.
