The work is complete and in the original brown cloth with gilt spine titles. The binding is tight, slight bubbling on board covers, gilt spine titles which are bright. The text is bright and clean with minor foxing to end sheets. In very good condition.
Trimmer (1795-1857) was an English geologist and mineralogist. In 1814 he was sent to manage his father’s copper mine in North Wales and in 1825 he was appointed overseer of slate quarries in Wales. In 1840 he accepted a position with the Geological Survey of England. Much of his research was on marine fossils and the classification of mineral deposits. His text “Practical Geology is a little known but very informative textbook. The first part of the work covers mineralogy and mineralogical chemistry and the second part covers geology and paleontology.
