The work is complete and in a contemporary cloth with gilt spine title. The binding is tight and clean, light toning to the text and light spotting to lower margin of text. Contains the ownership book plate and stamp of noted Dutch rhizopodologist H. R. Hoogenwald (1878-1956) within work. In very good condition.


Schultze (1825-74), professor of anatomy and director of the Anatomical Institute at Bonn; "He played a leading role in the movement to reform the cell theory as originally set forth by Schleiden and Schwann. He focused his studies not on the wall of cells but rather on the living substance found within all cells which is protoplasm.
