Maria Vasilievna Pavlova; (June 26, 1854 – December 23, 1938) was born in Kozelets, Ukraine and became a paleontologist and academician in Moscow during the Russian Empire and Soviet era. She is known for her research on Tertiary mammals and their evolution, especially proboscideans. Pavlova also was a professor at Moscow State University and led efforts to establish the Museum of Paleontology at the university. Her above work is an example of her research on mastodons. Pavlova is considered the first major female Russian paleontologist. Her original studies are rare.
