This is a volume in the “blue papers” as issued by the Victoria gold fields commission. The report provides a summary of the discovery of the gold fields, their development, and present state. This particular report also focuses on the social unrest that took place. The report pays particular attention to the riots in the Ballaarat district which the military was called in to stop and restore order. The causes of the unrest are addressed, as is the subsequent changes within the Commission to address corruption.
