James Geikie (1839-1915) was a Scottish geologist and the younger brother of Archibald Geikie. He succeeded his brother as Professor of Geology and Mineralogy at the University of Edinburgh. He wrote major works on glacial geology and the role played by land ice in sculpting the landscape. His text works became classics in the teaching of geology courses with his work “Structural and Field Geology” being especially important
