This rare atlas of Pikes Peak Colorado is in the original light tan title wraps with a black cloth spine. The covers are lightly toned with a Kittery Maine library stamp on the upper left. The text has a very small, very light stain on an outer edge well outside the print. The maps are all very clean. In very good condition.
Between 1894 and 1945 the USGS issued 227 folios covering various areas of the United States. The text pages of a folio covered the geology, historical geology, stratigraphy and if present the mineral and mining industry.
In the Pikes Peak folio Cross describes the geology, stratigraphy, structure and geologic history of the Pikes Peak region. He then gives a detailed description of the mineral deposits and mines of the famous Cripple Creek District.
