In 1898 the staff of the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York gathered together the articles on vertebrate paleontology published by the museum between 1892 and 1897 and published them as volume 1 of Fossil Vertebrates in the American Museum of Natural History. These volumes are now rare. Volume 1 contains 21 papers and a list of casts, models, photographs of skeletons and of restorations within the department as of early 1898. The papers are by Osborn, Matthew, Wortman, and Earle.
