In four volumes, 1st English edition, printed for A. Linde, London, 1756-57. Quarto, volume 1, pp. xiv, 6, 520, frontispiece map, three copper plates. Volume 2, pp. 2, 507, 1 plate. Volume 3, pp. 2, 385, 10. Volume 4, pp. 2, 290, 77 (appendix), 10, 3 plates. Total of eight plates. The set is complete and in a contemporary full calf with gilt spine titles and gilt ruled borders. Bindings have been nicely restored at edges and corners and scuffed areas on boards. Toning to margins of some text pages, penciled signature and some penciled notes on end sheets, rear end sheet and last index page water-stained on lower third. Over all a very good set. Small folio, title page in red and black, pp. 319, second title page, xvi, half title, 25 pages of tables, half title, 18 tables, ornamental initials and headsets. This very rare work is complete and in the original ornate tooled vellum over wood boards with five spine panels. Metal clasp on front cover outer edges with clips to rear cover lost. Inked spine titles completely faded. Archival repairs to outer margins of binding. Original end sheets replaced. The text is toned with a small area of worm damage to inner edge of first few pages. Over all this is still a very good copy of a very rare mining work. PRICE: $8,500.00
