Rare California Gold Book with maps, California State Mineralogist, 1890
California State Mineralogist; 10th Annual Report for the Year Ending December 1, 1890. Calif. State Mining Bureau, Sacramento, 1890. Octavo, pp. 983, 2 frontispieces being views of the mineral museum of the CDMG, 40 colored and b/w maps (many folded) profiles, plates, (many colored) numerous text illustrations.

The set is complete with the rare separate large folded maps present. Rare, with large geologic map of the Mother Lode region present. The work is in a contemporary half calf over marbled boards with gilt titles. The binding is tight and clean. X-lib. American Academy and Linda Hall with book plate on paste down, stamps on title page and text block edge. Presented by the California State Mineralogist to the American Academy. The text is clean and maps are clean with archival repairs at verso of some folds. Maps are loose at the rear of the work. In very good condition and seldom offered with the rare maps.

The text is complete and in a contemporary blue cloth with gilt titles and the original title wraps bound in. The binding is tight with light scuffing to the boards, the text is exceptionally clean. In very good condition.

The work is complete and in the original binder wraps and in a modern archival clam shell box. The box is in fine condition, lower outer corner of archival cover repaired, text and plate are bright and clean and are in very good condition. From the library of Lord Brownlow of Belton House with his signature on first blank leaf. In very good condition.

X-lib. with catalogue number on lower cover edge and blind stamp on title page edge. The text is clean. Inscribed by Derby on upper cover margin. In very good condition.

The two volumes are complete and bound in one which is typical of the work. Both title pages are present. The binding is a contemporary full calf with gilt spine titles. Rubbing to boards and corners. Owners name in small pen on paste-down, light toning to text margins, very small worming in gutter of last pages. Over all in very good condition.

This rare work is complete and in a late 19th century full calf with stamped borders, gilt spine bands and gilt titles. Text block edges in gilt with marbled end sheets, book plate of the Swiss  physician, anthropologist and explorer Alexis George Montandon. He was born in Cortailod Switzerland in 1879. He settled in Paris in 1925. When Germany conquered France he became a collaborator, supporting eugenics and He became an avid supporter of the extermination of the Jews and other “undesirables”. Montandon was executed along with his wife by the French Resistance in 1944 in Clamart France. The text is bright and clean with wide page margins. In very good condition.
