The book is complete and in early cloth boards with a modern title label on the cover. The binding is tight, book plate of noted geologist Jules Marcou on paste down and inscribed by the author on the title page to the famous geologist-paleontologist  Alcide D'Orbigny. The text and plates are very clean. In very good condition.

First edition, quarto, pp. xii, 488 folding tinted lithograph frontispiece, 12 plates including 6 colored lithographs bird plates by Keulemans, folding colored geological map.
The text is complete and in the original green cloth with gilt spine titles. The binding is tight, smudge mark on lower spine where call-number was removed. Book plate of noted U.S. geologist Josiah D. Whitney on paste down and smaller plate removed from upper margin of paste down and pocket removed from rear. The text is exceptionally clean and bright. In very good condition.

Owners book plate on paste down, earlier label removed from end sheet, no library markings present. Some early penciled notations in text margins, text is clean. In very good condition. Very rare.

(one of 150 copies printed).

The work is complete and in a modern cloth with gilt titles, marbled text block edges. The binding is tight and clean, x-lib. defunct Upsala College with book plate on paste down, stamp on title page. Text and plates are very clean. A rare work in very good condition.

Emmons, Ebenezer; American Geology containing a Statement of the Principles of the Science with full Illustrations of the Characteristic American Fossils. Parts 1 & 2 & 6 (all published). Albany, Sprague & Company, 1855-1857. Quarto, Part 1, pp. xvi, 194, frontispiece, 1 double page plate, 46 illustrations. Part 2, pp. 251, 18 double page plates, 84 illustrations. Part 6, pp. x, 152, 12 plates and a section, (many are folded, plates are randomly numbered and do not correspond to text notation for plates).
The set is in a later linen with paper spine labels. The bindings are tight and clean. All are from the library of Mrs. M. Schuyler Elliot and bequeathed to the American Museum of Natural History with their book plate, stamp and cancellation stamp. The text for parts 1 and 2 are very clean, text for part 6 has light toning, clean plates, inked notation on title page denoting parts 3 through 5 were never published. In very good condition.

The work is complete and in a later full calf with raised spine bands, gilt spine titles. The binding is tight and clean, text lightly trimmed, text and plates with light toning. In very good condition.

X-lib Kummel geology library with book plate, blind stamp and stamp reverse of title page and stamp on text block edges. The text and plates are very clean and free of stamps. In very good condition

Hayden, Ferdinand Vandiveer, United States Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories. First through Twelfth Annual Reports with octavo atlas to 12th Annual Report and large folio atlas titled Geological and Geographical Atlas of Colorado and Portions of Adjacent Territory, 1st edition, 1877. Washington,1867 to 1877.

All of the Annual Reports are complete with all but three in the original brown cloth binding with gilt spine titles. Two reports are in the original presentation calf over marbled boards with gilt titles and marbled end sheets. One report is in a later black cloth with gilt titles. All bindings are tight, one binding has a light spine stain not effecting the interior. All of the volumes are clean internally with no water staining or underlining. The maps in the octavo size atlas have been re-enforced on the back of folds to prevent splitting. The maps are clean. The large atlas was re-cased and has a later spine. Light staining to covers and a mining institute stamp on the title page. The maps are clean with a very minor damp margin at the upper edge of a few pages. Over all, this is a very good complete set of the Hayden survey with both atlases present.
