The work is complete and in a later black cloth binding with gilt titles and the original blue title wraps bound in. The binding is tight and clean, short repair to inner front hinge. Canceled book plate of the A.M.N.H. on paste down, minor wear to folds on plate. In very very good condition.

The text is complete and in the original green cloth with gilt spine titles. The binding is tight, smudge mark on lower spine where call-number was removed. Book plate of noted U.S. geologist Josiah D. Whitney on paste down and smaller plate removed from upper margin of paste down and pocket removed from rear. The text is exceptionally clean and bright. In very good condition.

Inscribed by Van Rensselaer on the title page to the New York Literary & Philosophical Society, canceled stamp on the book plate of the AMNH on paste down, no stamps in text or on plates  Very rare with two profiles present.
