The work is complete and in the original cloth with gilt titles. The binding is tight, scuffing to the boards and smudge on lower spine edge. The text is very clean and free of any marking, front inner hinge nicely tightened. In very good condition.

In five parts, Part 1, General Report, pp. 131, 41 woodcuts (from sketches by Molhausen & Egloffstein), 7 colored plates, 11 b/w litho plates, and 8 folded panoramic views (by Egloffstein) and the frontispiece which depicts the expedition's steamboat "Explorer" passing Chimmey Rock, two folded maps covering route from the mouth of the Colorado to Fort Defiance and a plate showing the profile of the route. Part 2, Hydrographic Report, pp. 14. Part 3, Geological Report, pp. 154, 6 litho. plates ( 3 views, 3 fossils ). (The index calls for 2 geol. maps but these were never issued (USGS LIbrary & Wagner Camp)), 27 woodcuts. Part 4, Botany, pp. 30. Part 5, Zoology, pp. 6. Appendices, pp. 32. The work is complete and in the original cloth with a gilt over vignette of "Explorer" and gilt spine titles which have faded to green (this is common with copies in the original cloth). The binding is tight and clean with minor archival restoration to corners which is not noticed. The text and plates are very clean and free of any stamps or blemishes. A very short hinge tear to one map which was repaired on the verso with archival tape. This is an exceptionally clean copy in very good condition.

Light foxing to margins of pages and light foxing to margins of some plates. Soiling to very outer margins of map and Niagara Falls view. Over all in very good condition.

The work is complete and in the original rust colored cloth with black cover titles and vignette. The binding is tight and very clean with only minor scuffing to board edges. The text is very clean. A very good copy of the scarce first printing.
