John Auldjo (1805–1886), was a Swiss geologist and Alpinist. He wrote wrotes on his ascents of several Alpine peaks, particularly Mont Blanc. He visited and climbed the volcano Mount Vesuvius in 1831. This is a narrative of his visit and a history of the volcanic history of Vesuvius. The work is particularly noted for its incredible views which are from illustrations by Auldjo. The work is quite scarce.
