Bound in two volumes with original title covers preserved. The bindings are tight and clean, old library call number on lower corner of wraps, text and plates have minor foxing to some signatures. In very good condition.

A French paleontologist and geologist; Orbigny (1802-1857) travelled extensively in South America, making major contributions to our knowledge of the geology of that continent. He introduced the concept of stages and zones to stratigraphy and attempted the first subdivision of the Jurassic and Cretaceous.based on invertebrate fossils. This was applied in his monumental work "Paleontologie Francaise".
