Miller (1801-1880); was an English mineralogist and crystallographer with Cambridge University. He developed the methods now used for the indexing of crystal faces. His methods are outlined in the above work which is the basis on which modern crystallographic notations rest. Crystallographers know this notational scheme as the "Miller Indices".
