An English geographer and Fellow of the Royal Society, Gordon is best known for his geography text “Geography Anatomiz’d” which was first published in 1693 and went through numerous editions. The work was a requirement in schools throughout England. After providing an overview to geography and its methodology. Within this part is a map of the world. Parts 2 through 4 cover Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Each part includes maps with the part on America containing a map showing California as an island. The earliest editions of this work are very rare.
