Georg August Goldfuss (1782-1848), was a German paleontologist born at Thurnau near Bayreuth. He was educated at Erlangen and was subsequently appointed professor of zoology and mineralogy in the university of Bonn. He is best remembered for his massive work Petrefacta Germaniae (1826-1844), a work which was intended to illustrate the invertebrate fossils of Germany. In addition to publishing his massive survey in parts in Petrefacta Germaniae, Goldfuss also published updates in Acta Acad. The above work contains systematic descriptions of crinoids and trilobites.
