Werner; (1749-1817) a German mineralogist and geologist at the Freiberg Mining Academy, (from 1775-185) was responsible for that institutions recognition as the world's finest for mining geologists. His early writings on mineralogy constituted a major advance in the science. The above "Letztes"; published at the time of his death, was edited by the noted mineralogist Johan Carl Freisleben. The work is based on Werner's lectures as an instructor at Freiberg and also provides insight into his life.
