A Scottish physiologist and amateur paleontologist; Wright (1809-1884) is best known for his studies of ammonites and echinoderms. In volume 1, Wright discusses the cidaridae, hemicidaridae and diadaemadae in part one and completes the diademadae and covers the echinidae, salenidae and echinoconidae in part 2. Part 3 covers the Collyritidae, Echinobrissidae and Echinolampidae. Part four concludes the Echinolampidae and Wright discusses the stratigraphical distribution of the Oolitic species, and provides an excellent bibliography on the echinodermata. Volume 2 completes the work with discussions of the asteroidea and ophiuroidea.
