This is the 1647 reprint of the 1636 Latin edition of Deboodt's work and contains the Latin translation of Theophrastus' Book on Stones by Johann de Laet. The two works are always bound together as issued. Johan de Laet (1582-1649) was born into a wealthy Belgium family and published important early descriptions of the New World, as well as Spain, Italy, and Persia. He became one of the directors of the famous Compagnie des Indes (Dutch West-Indies Company).
