Much of this work is focused on the rich mining region of Cornwall and the lead mining region of Yorkshire and the northern counties. The report describes the conditions in the mines, the accidents, the health of the miners and details the lack of certain types of mine safety. The report concludes that a large amount of illness amongst metalliferous miners is caused by the lack of proper ventilation and proper housing for changing. The commissioners go on to recommend safety measures to reduce accidents in the mines and shafts The plates are quite beautiful and illustrate mines, miners, equipment etc.
