Octavo, pp. 983, 2 frontispieces being views of the mineral museum of the CDMG, 40 colored and b/w maps (many folded) profiles, plates, (many colored) numerous text illustrations.

The set is complete with the rare separate large folded maps present. Rare, with large geologic map of the Mother Lode region present. The work is in a contemporary half calf over marbled boards with gilt titles. The binding is tight and clean. X-lib. American Academy and Linda Hall with book plate on paste down, stamps on title page and text block edge. Presented by the California State Mineralogist to the American Academy. The text is clean and maps are clean with archival repairs at verso of some folds. Maps are loose at the rear of the work. In very good condition and seldom offered with the rare maps.

The 10th Annual Report of the California State Mineralogist is considered one of the most important publications issued by that office. The report contains a study by Fairbanks on the geology of the Mother Lode region with a large map. This is followed by a county by county detailed review of the known mineral deposits, mines and prospects. The report contains a description of the known meteorite occurrences in California, a report on quicksilver mining, a report on gold mining throughout the state, and a report on auriferous beach sands. The book contains a wealth of historic information on California's mining industry in 1890 and this is well supplemented by the rare maps.
