Accum, Fredrick; (Fredrich Christian); A Practical Essay on the Analysis of Minerals, Exemplifying the best methods of analysing Ores, Earths, Stones, Inflammable Fossils and Mineral Substances in General. 1st American edition, Philadelphia, 1809. Octavo, pp. xxiv, 236, frontispiece plate and one plate. Accum's textbook which treats the techniques used to identify minerals by various chemical analysis. Accum describes the various apparatus used and the techniques of mineral analysis and follows this with a section on the techniques used in analyzing ore minerals. The last three parts of the work are devoted to the analysis of the "earths", "salts" and "coals". The 1st edition of the work was printed in London in 1804 with the American edition of the 1804 edition published in 1809. The work is now scarce with most library copies being on microfiche.
