A noted British mineralogist; Phillips (1775-1828) wrote several text works on mineralogy and geology. His mineralogy texts were to go through several editions. But the above edition of Phillips "Mineralogy" is considered to be one of the best textbooks of crystallography and mineralogy ever published. So little remains of Phillip's original work that many describe the book as the "Brooke & Miller" text. Miller follows the same pattern used in his classic "Treatise on Crystallograpy" (Miller Indices)The composition and arrangement of the work is primarily Millers with Brooke updating the data on the minerals. This is a beautiful association copy, once owned by the noted mineralogist and petrologist Alfred Harker.
