The text is complete and in a contemporary quarter calf and cloth boards with gold spine titles. Short tear to upper spine corner nicely repaired, light shelf scuffing to boards. X-lib. stamp verso of title page and book plate on paste down. The text and plates are very clean, a very good copy. The work is quite scarce.

An Italian paleontologist; Michelotti is noted for his studies of the invertebrate fossils (echinoderms, brachiopods, molluscs) and foraminifera of Italy, and his contributions to the understanding of the Tertiary stratigraphy of the country. His works are noted for the beautifully illustrated plates of fossils. The above early study of the Miocene fossils of northern Italy is considered a classic in Italian paleontology.
