A Hungarian Geologist and paleontologist; Heilprin (1853-1907) travelled extensively throughout the southern U. S. and Caribbean region. His above study is one of the first systematic treatments of the Tertiary geology and stratigraphy of the US. The work also appeared in a shorter form in the Memoirs of the Academy of Natural Sciences and is usually found in that form. The above work encompasses six earlier studies and was printed by the Academy, bound in brown cloth and issued as a separate.
