In archival folder with marbled boards, inscribed by authors, with bookplate verso of blue title cover. Very rare in true offprint form.
Hayden's first report as official geologist on the Warren Expedition. The partially hand-colored map is his first geological map of a portion of the territory. The region of the Black Hills is noted but the geology is lacking on this earlier map. Meek provides some of the first description of fossils from the Nebraska Territory. This is an exceptionally rare work on the early geological and paleontological studies of western North America.
