Two volumes, Richard Bentley, London, 1834. Large octavo, vol. 1 pp. xiv, 416, frontispiece, 2 folded maps in front pocket. Vol. 2, pp. vii, 351, frontispiece. In original green cloth with gilt titles, rubbing to boards, book plate of German Society on pastedowns, light spotting to two text pages in vol. 2, very good. Featherstonehaugh records a journey made through the central states and to the country of the principal tributaries of the Mississippi River. He returned to Washington via Alabama,Georgia, western North Carolina,and Virginia. Featherstonhaugh's primary interests on this portion of his tour were the Indians and the gold-mining operations in Georgia and North Carolina; and these items are described in considerable detail.
