Waldauf von Waldenstein (1779-?), was born into nobility being from a prominent Tyrolean family. He was a high government official in Vienna and involved throughout his career with the development of the mineral resources of Tyrol. ,In this rare work he considers the origins of sedimentary strata and the formation of mineral deposits within that strata . He describes the processes of geological deformations which occur and the effects of those processes on the origin and occurrence of many minerals. The finely engraved plates depict these processes and how the use of artistic renderings can help in the locating of deposits. The colored plate vividly depicts 56 types of deformation which can be seen in the field.
