Edward Owen (1704-1771) was a printer on Paternoster Row, London and then an antiquarian. Little is know of his life. His 1754 publication “Earths, Rocks, Stones and Minerals, For some Miles about Bristol” is his only known work. Owen describes the geography, geology, resources, minerals and ores in the Bristol region. He attempts to explain the formation of the various minerals and ores, the colors of the minerals, the process of quarrying stones, the fossils or snake stones and the formation of springs found in the region. The book is very rare.
