How (? - 1879) was a Canadian geologist and mineralogist. He was Professor of Chemistry and Natural History at University of King’s College, Windsor Ontario. How’s major contribution to Canadian mineralogy is this small text which is probably the earliest topographical mineralogy describing the minerals found in Nova Scotia.
The text begins with a list of publications covering various geological aspects of the area. Then in fifteen chapters the materials of economic mineralogy are covered, i.e. coal, gold, silver, copper, iron and manganese ores, gypsum, limestone, marble, building material, ornamental stones, and mineral waters. Chapter 14 contains a Catalogue of Localities of Minerals throughout the region.
